Pat Sanshompoo, an accomplished chef and businesswoman from Surin Thailand, first opened the original Pat Thai Restaurant in Bloomfield, NJ on January 1, 2002. The Bloomfield Pat Thai was a small, twenty-seat storefront operation that shared bathrooms with the now closed Pitt's Oak Tavern, another Bloomfield landmark that had earned its own brand of notoriety. The "Thai Soul Kitchen of Bloomfield" became popular as time went on, and gained a cult-like following of loyal customers from throughout several counties.

In April of 2007, Pat Thai Restaurant opened on North Beverwyck Road in Parsippany, NJ after closing its doors in Bloomfield in March of 2007. The building that housed Pat Thai Bloomfield was sold along with Oak Tavern's liquor license, and its new owners did an extensive makeover to later open The Orange Squirrel, an upscale restaurant that you would more likely experience in Soho or the Upper East Side.

Pat Thai offers an extensive menu of fine Thai cuisine with spice levels ranging from 1 (just a pinch) to 10 (firemen are standing by).

Kimberly Kaye, a writer for NJ's weekly publication of City Belt, best describes our food in her "But I Digest..." restaurant column in her review of our former Bloomfield location:

"Pat Thai offers the soul food equivalent of Thai cuisine. You could go to Spice Market in NYC and order your $25 entrée infused with Thai basil and lemongrass and flanked by a blood-orange mojito, but after the glitz of the first time fades, what remains? I try places like these from time to time, and the same thing always happens -- much like the morning after a night of infidelity with the hot cheerleader, I’m suddenly dissatisfied, craving the substance and the rooted depth of my old lover.
